What's so schizophrenic about this sale?
This advert was spotted by Dr Sally Thio who later informed the shop's staff to change the word "schizophrenic" to another word. This is an example of how AGMI members can contribute towards de-stigmatizing mental illness in society by highlighting areas of discrepancy, disparity, injustice, and discrimination in the way we treat persons with mental illness.
AGMI organises 2009 Symposium on Insurance Parity for Mental Illness
AGMI organised a public symposium on Insurance Parity for Mental Illness on 29 March 2009 at the DBS Auditorium. The Guest of Honour was Madam Halimah Yacob, NTUC Deputy Secretary General and MP for Jurong GRC and the then GPC Chariman for Health. She delivered a key note address. The Guest Speaker was Professor Mark Heyrman, from University of Chicago Law School. About 200 participants graced the occasion.
2nd AGMI Walk on 7 Oct 2007: Stamp out Stigma
1st AGMI Walk on 8 October 2006 along Orchard Road
AGMI organised its first AGMI Walkathon along Orchard Road on 8 Oct 2006. Wearing T-shirts with the wordings: "People with mental illness can lead a meaningful and satisfying life; just like you and me." About 1000 participants walked up and down a stretch of Orchard Road to drive home the message of anti-stigmatisation of mental illness. The Guest of Honour was Madam Halimah Yacob, the then GPC (Health) Chairman, who led all the way from start to finish.
